Understanding the opportunity
Zenobe had ambitions to become a leader in the energy and transport sectors with its trailblazing storage and electrification solutions. Our initial challenge was to build the brand and develop a strategy that reflected the scale of the team’s ambition, raising its profile and laying foundations for growth. Energy storage was a misunderstood technology that hadn’t earned its place in national conversations about the energy transition at the time. We also saw an opportunity to change this, and fast.
Bridging the gap
In the beginning, we worked closely with the senior team to develop unique messaging, define the company’s ‘why’ and help Zenobe stand out amongst competitors, elevating its profile through proactive and reactive press office activity.
As the company doubled in size, we worked closely with the team to ensure our communications strategy and ambition grew with it, placing Zenobe at the centre of conversations around net zero and raising awareness of the crucial role storage plays in the transition.
Our media strategy consisted of a range of tactics to build belief in the Zenobe brand, and it evolved over four years. It led to feature pieces in national targets such as The Times, The Telegraph, the Financial Times, and The Guardian, and our reactive press office led to coverage on BBC Breakfast, Times Radio, and BBC World Service.
Engaging audiences
One of the biggest hurdles was the widespread misunderstanding of energy storage which made it difficult to show the importance of Zenobe’s work. We needed to get people interested and explain why what Zenobe was doing mattered.
By making connections with prominent energy correspondents across national media, engaging with strategic contacts in energy and finance trades, and strategically placing op-eds and reactive commentary, we piqued the interest of the right audiences, and the word about Zenobe spread. By simplifying the complicated stuff, we got the right people to pay attention.
Building value
We built the Zenobe brand from the ground up, taking it through to international expansion and its billion-dollar valuation. During our four years of working with them, we helped Zenobe become a sector leader and maintain a dominant share of voice among competitors. Battery storage and electrification are now widely understood as being crucial elements of the net zero transition, proving that comms is both a growth driver and a powerful education tool.
